...14...

Last night I had the honor to pray for a 14 year old prostitute. I held her small hands in mine, kissed her sweet cheek and prayed a covering of protection, love and grace over her.

I have never seen shame like I saw on her face. She dripped in it. Her eyes barely left the ground and she did not smile. She was steeped in humiliation, pain, embarrassment and disgrace. SHAME.

I prayed that she would know the love of God, see her true value and be freed from her chains. Her hopes are in those prayers. Her hope is in knowing that she is the daughter of the Almighty King. Her hope is His grace, His love, His forgiveness, His compassion. Her hope is in Him.

Her shame will be washed away by the blood of Jesus.

That is her hope.

  2. Hey Reshma,
These are the things that break my heart when i think about what happens in our world. And not to say that what you, and other people are doing in Inida isn't important in any way, because it is incredibly important that you are there to show what kind of love God offers, but it is so amazing when you realize that the same types of things happen here in the US as well... we are living in a world where the value of a person is so greatly diminished that some people don't even think twice about the fact that they are treating a person as their property. What is even more heart breaking is the fact that these young girls don't think they have any other options... there are so many girls that are either tricked in to the prostitution industry, or are there because their survival depends on it, and to know that I have so much love from the people around me while some people have so little that they go searching for it in ways such as this is overwhelming to think about. I know this isn't really the same thing, but I drove by a night club at one point this summer, and it was early afternoon and there were a few girls standing at the door with suit cases waiting to get in. I don't know what it is that takes those girls to the point where they are willing to sell their looks and their bodies, but it's amazing to think about, and is too much to even fathom being able to help them all... so... all of that to say that I think its really amazing what you will be able to do in your short time there. There is a purpose for you being there, and God will continue to use you in ways that you will never even be aware of here on earth. Someday, you will find out your impact, but for now all you can do is pray and serve Him, and wait for those changes in others to happen. :)
    Love,
    Amanda
